![]() Pink Shirt Day HistoryPink Shirt Day seeks to raise awareness about bullying. This day aims to raise funds for anti-bullying and support programs. It hopes to foster healthy self-esteem in children and prevent bullying in schools, workplaces, and online. This day encourages everyone to wear a pink shirt in solidarity against bullying. Pink Shirt Day was created in 2007 by CKNW radio station. They drew inspiration from high school students David Shepherd and Travis Price after the two organized a protest against bullying at their school. It started as a gesture of sympathy when they witnessed a 9th-grade boy being bullied for wearing a pink shirt. As a way of protesting, David and Travis distributed pink t-shirts to all the boys in their school in Berwick, Nova Scotia. The day inspired many to help protest and eliminate bullying. According to the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, about 1 in 3 students in Canada have reported being bullied. This day is observed annually on the last Wednesday of February.
