Queen's Birthday History

Queen's Birthday celebrates the birthday of the current New Zealand monarch. As a constitutional monarchy, the current Queen of New Zealand and the other Commonwealth Realms is Queen Elizabeth II. Although Queen Elizabeth II was born in April, the date of the birthday celebration was never changed after her grandfather, King George V, passed away in 1936. King George V was born on 3 June.

Queen's Birthday in New Zealand is celebrated on the first Monday of June. Occasionally, the date falls on King George V's official birthday of 3 June.
