![]() World Sleep Day HistoryWorld Sleep Day seeks to draw awareness to the importance of sleep and promote scientific research on sleep. The World Association of Sleep Medicine and World Sleep Federation is credited with the origin of this observance. According to Symbol Statistics Canada, about one-third of Canadians sleep fewer hours per night than what is recommended for the physical and mental wellbeing of an individual. Sleep deprivation has been shown to increase incidences of diabetes, cardiovascular disease and obesity.
