International Waffle Day began as a celebration in Sweden, but it soon spread to many other countries in Europe and other continents as well. Historians believe that versions of waffles have been around for 8,000 years. However, it was not until 1725 when a waffle first appeared in a cookbook, the writer being Robert Smith.
