![]() Yom Hazikaron HistoryYom HaZikaron (Israeli Memorial Day) seeks to remember those who gave their lives in defense of the State of Israel. This day serves as a national day of mourning. It honors those soldiers who fought in the War of Independence as well as subsequent battles. On the preceding day, a one-minute siren is sounded in the evening. The following morning, a two-minute siren is sounded before a national memorial ceremony is held. Yom HaZikaron was established in 1963 by the Israelian parliament.
